Wayne Weil will be in it for the long haul on Oct. 23 to Oct. 27. 

The Point Park University college DJ and assistant general manager for the university's WPPJ Radio will take to the airwaves for 67 hours as a part of the station's long-running Rock-a-Thon fundraiser. 

"We do it the week of Halloween," said Weil, who graduated from Moon Area High School in 1999. "We just do a 67-hour straight broadcast. And it's just a great fundraiser that we do." 

Rock-a-Thon got its start some 30 years ago at Point Park as an event that benefits Pittsburgh-area Early Learning Institute, including the location on Grant Street in Kennedy Township. 

The Early Learning Institute is a county-wide non-profit groups that works with infants and toddlers with learning disabilities, focusing on early education intervention. 

All proceeds from Rock-a-Thon benefit the organization.

Weil described Rock-a-Thon as a student-driven fundraiser where anything goes. 

"We'll set up to broadcast outside of our studio with extension cords, and we'll just go from there," he said. "We'll do different events and games and things to get students participating." 

Weil said the event can bring in several thousand dollars for the Early Learning Institute. He said members of Point Park's student media rally around the event each year. 

"This is our big event for the fal semester and this is sort of the thing that everyone looks forward to," said Weil, who also works at Bocktown Bar & Grille in North Fayette. "Not only is it good for raising money, but we're a small college radio station and it gets our names out there too."
