Montour School District Amends Bus Routes
The school district plans to redo its bus routes in the coming weeks.
The Montour School District will re-examine its bus routes less than one month after the start of the latest school year.
Superintendent Donald Boyer said more than 100 students enrolled in the district after Aug. 10, a factor that lead to significant transportation delays in the first weeks of school.
He also said three parochial schools served by Montour transportation provided incorrect information about the start of their school days.
The completion of roadwork on Clever Road and the Aiken Street Extension were also not factored into the district's current bus routes.
New routes, adjusted to correct those discrepancies, are expected to begin on Sept. 26, Boyer said at the Montour School Board's monthly meeting.
The routes will be made available to the public on Sept. 24. The district plans to finalize the routes, test them and gain transportation union approval in the coming weeks.
School board members also adopted a policy requiring bus drivers to return kindergarten students to school if an adult is not present at the bus stop. District bus drivers operated under the policy for several years, though it had never been approved by the school board.
