The Market District Giant Eagle at Settlers Ridge has donated $1,000 to the Robinson Township Police department for the adoption of a canine officer

Robinson Police Chief Dale Vietmeier said his department has kicked off fundraising efforts for the dog, which will be adopted through the Pittsburgh Bureau of Police Canine School.

The estimated cost of training the dog is between $15,000 and $20,000, Vietmeier said.

Officials from Giant Eagle presented township commissioners with the check at the board's November meeting.
