Update: No one was injured yesterday in a two-car blaze on the Interstate 376 East Business Route in Moon. 

Moon Township Fire Chief John Scott said a three-vehicle crash shortly after 5 p.m. resulted in two of the vehicles catching on fire. Motorists in each of the vehicles escaped before the blaze began. 

Moon Police Officer Shener Ulke said the crash occurred after one vehicle slammed into the back of the car in front of it, pushing the second vehicle into the next car on the parkway. The crash occured on the Interstate 376 overpass before the airport exit. 

The impact of the crash caused the gas tank in the second vehicle to burst and ignite the cars on fire, Ulke said. 

The vehicles appeared to have been fully engulfed in flames during the blaze, which damaged portions of the roadway. Scott said PennDOT crews have since removed debris and metal from the road. 

Traffic remained backed up along the parkway following the crash. Witnesses reported seeing heavy smoke in the area.
