Crescent commissioners approved the township's $1.8 million 2013 budget, re-adjusting the township's millage rate to 6.4.
The budget was approved following the board's Dec. 27 meeting, one week after Allegheny County Judge Robert Gallo approved the township's petition to increase the budget 13 percent from the previous year.
The budget marks an $801,437 increase from 2012's spending plan; following property re-appraisal estimates for the community, the millage was lowered from 2012's rate of 6.5 mils.
Municipalities must receive court approval before increasing revenues by more than 5 percent during reassessment years.
In a petition filed before the Allegheny County Court of Common Pleas, solicitor Richard Start said several federally mandated projects and repairs to the community's long-closed McCutcheon Way necessitated the steep increase.

I am just beside myself that, township officals can say no to $250,000 from the Army Corp of Engineers to fix McCutchen and then turn around and use the cost of repairing McCutchen Way as a tool and reason to increase the budget. Which in turn will most likely cause our taxes to go up. For those that don't remember, or are reading this for the first time, the Army Corp of Engineers offered to pay for the repair of McCutchen at no cost to Crescent Township. The trade was, that the Army Corp of Engineers wanted to close the road and park while repairing Dashields Dam.
I wonder how many more things are in the new budget could have been funded by other means other than a tax increase. I guess only our township officals know!!!!!!!!!

Hi Fred,
I don't believe the Army Corps disclosed a time period, at least not publicly to media. Here's a link to the last story related to this topic: http://moon.patch.com/articles/crescent-petitions-to-increase-2013-budget-by-13-7-percent

The army core of enginers said they would put $400,000 in repair of our road. Comissners were told to vote it down by Board President and Vice Prwsident who negotiated with army corp, so they did. This fiasco is just one of many instigated by currant president and vice presidet who need to be replace as soon as possible. They are bankrpting township. 13% increase in milage rate and Pres and VPres say they havnt raised taxes on residence in township???? Pathetic lie. Now EEOC claim costing us money. What next?? Vote them out.

They claim they can't afford the police, they harass staff and cause lawsuits, waste taxpayer money on Shouse Park. But hey! Read the minutes folks. Billy Boy wants HIS road plowed wider and better. And don't forget to drive by and see the beautiful port-a-john taxpayers are footing the bill for down at Riverview Park. Can't seem to keep your priorities straight!

Hope, I'm afraid we won't know the extent of damage caused by "Billy Boy" (as you put it) and Patton his partner in the fleecing of Crescent residents until after we get them both out. One of them down this year Patton and the other in 2 years Billy Boy. Then we can get back to being a friendly township with everyone working for the same goal of making our township a better place. We have had our fill of temper tantrums, name calling and lies.
