Motorists can expect delays at the intersection of Brodhead and Flaugherty Run roads beginning next week as road crews work to repair a deteriorating bridge. 

Crews will replace the bridge that carries Brodhead Road over Flaughterty Run. Motorists should expect single-lane, alternating traffic at the intersection. The bridge was first built in the 1930s, according to the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation. 

Township Manager Jeanne Creese said traffic will be initially managed by flaggers, but a temporary traffic signal will be installed at the intersection by the end of the month. Access to nearby businesses will be provided. 

Work on the bridge replacement is set to wrap up in November. The new structure will be 10 feet wider than the existing lane, large enough to accommodate a third traffic lane in the future. 

Golden Triangle Construction is the prime contractor on the $1.5 million project. More than 7,000 vehicles pass over the bridge each day, according to PennDOT.
